John's scenario using CDC Plus (John is not a real person)
John is on the CDC Plus Waiver and has intellectual disabilities and lives alone in a one-bedroom Section 8 apartment. When he was not working, his monthly financial situation looked like this:
Income:
SSI Monthly Income: $783
Expenses:
Rent: $350
Utilities: $117
Groceries: $250
Clothing, haircuts, social outings: $150
Total monthly expenses: $867
John and his representative secured money in his CDC Plus budget.
With this money, he was able to secure job coaching services to assist him in preparing for work, securing work, and maintaining employment; along with supported living coaching to empower him to master life skills necessary to remain employable and independent.
He found a job as a stocker, making $11.00 per hour.
His feeling of self-worth has increased immeasurably and his financial situation has greatly improved. He is no longer dependent on his elderly parents to supplement his monthly expenses!
He also uses his supported living coach to help him find fun social things to do in the community with his newfound income!
And all of these services were paid for by APD! All he had to do was have his representative submit monthly invoices he received from his provider to APD! They pay his provider directly.
